Good tool for grieving families

Where Did Mommy Go?

Death is a hard concept for children to understand. To make matters worse the adults in their life are often too busy or so involved in their own grief they don't take the time to find out what the children's questions are.

Where Did Mommy Go? is a good reminder to slow down and get my children's perspective on what has happened and what they are struggling with. Sherry Riffle shares wonderfully how the things adults say make no sense to children. In trying to get ourselves off the hook with tough questions we can cause more confusion for our children.

My one caution would be to be very sure your children understand God requires us to accept his gift of salvation. People do not simply go to heaven when they die, no matter what. For young ones this can be as simple as ABC. Admit we are sinners in need of a Savior. Believe Jesus did all that was required for us to be right with God. Confess Jesus as Lord.

Where Did Mommy Go?

Great
This book was very wonderful to read. It taught you that that sometimes when you explain something to children that they don't always understand exactly what it is that you re explaining to them. Be honest with the child and then go back and make sure that they completely understand. Excellent book

Super cute story
The Town That Cried Help!
Super cute story! It teaches a valuable lesson, too. Sometimes it's not the biggest or the strongest or the best looking friend who comes to the rescue when we need it. Sometimes it's just the one with the kindest heart. I love the lesson in kindness taught here.

What a great story! My children (ages 7 and 9) loved it! I love that it teaches life lessons as well! What a great book to teach about having faith in yourself and "small people" can do big things, too!

A Friend For Patty

Lessons in the Values Talents and Friendship
One of my favorite comics is the Peanuts. Poor Charlie Brown can’t seem to do anything right. He can’t win a baseball game. He can’t fly a kite. Worst of all, nobody seems to like him. Thankfully, Charlie Brown has one faithful friend, Linus, who encourages him. I was reminded of Charlie Brown as I read A Friend for Patty by Sherry L. Riffle. Poor Patty can’t do many things right including flying a kite. Unlike Charlie Brown, she also has things she can do well. At first, she doesn’t have a friend like Linus, but with patience, she forms a friendship with a new girl, Kimmy Sue.
I like stories that have moral lessons that can be discussed with children. The first lesson that I see that can be discussed from A friend for Patty is the value of talents. We all have talents that we do well and things we don’t do well. Children can feel shame over the things they don’t do well especially if peers tease them or an adult criticizes them. Children need to learn that they have their own talents and gifts, but more importantly that their value doesn’t come from the things they do well. Their value comes from who they are inside.
The second lesson is the value of friendship. We need friends who accept us for who we are and who encourage us. We need to be that type of friend to others. I see Kimmy Sue and Patty accepting each other for who they are not the talents they have. I see them being an encouragement to each other. The example of their friendship can be a good discussion for children.
The story is a simple easy reader written in a sing-song rhyming style. It can certainly be read by a child learning to read, but its real values are the moral lessons that can be discussed. I would especially recommend this book for children struggling with shame over the things they don’t do well.

I love how it reminds us all
This little book about friendship and perfection is just darling. I love how it reminds us all, young, old, tall, or
small.....Nobody is perfect. But in the eyes of sweet friendship.... its our imperfections that always make us beautiful. The book made me ask myself... just imagine if we all lived in a world where everybody was a friend....how beautiful our lives would be beginning to the end.

A Friend For Patty
This is a precious little story about a little girl who finds another little girl with similar abilities and they become friends. It's really sweet. I love it that the two girls both struggle with the same issues and that they found one another. I think this would give a child without a friend some hope that they, too, might find someone similar to themselves and become best friends.

Great learning tool and fun too.
This is a very good book for young readers who are trying to learn new words. There are great new words not just the traditional first words and I love that! It has a wonderful storyline and is really nice in rhyming as well. The characters are so adorable. I like how the story comes together. I can't wait to get this for my grandchildren so we can read it together and they can learn how to read and make new friends.

A+ Book!!! Loved it!
I enjoyed this book, and loved that it was an easy reader for my first graders. They even asked me to read it twice. Friends are hard to come by, and this book gives hope that we all have a special friend out there. I hope to find this book in my local library soon, so it can be shared with other kids across the world. Super cute graphics and story! 5/5!

Valuable lesson
A Friend For Patty
What a great story of the value of each individual! It is so important for children to learn that we are not all the same and we do not have all the same gifts or talents. And there are so many people who will love us just the way we are. The illustrations are adorable and the lesson is clear. The only drawback is that the rhythm of the rhyme is off a just bit.

Six Small Monkeys

No matter how hard the day is in the end love prevails. This children's book shows this perfectly.
I like how the brothers play with one another but help get each other into trouble just like my grandchildren do! This is going to be the perfect book to get for my daughter to read to her children who so happen to equal 6. It may help her to calm down and just kiss them on the heads when they are a little rambunctious just like the monkeys. It is a very cute book and fun to read an interesting to find out what the little guys are going to get into next. But in the end it's always great to know that mommy's love is always going to be there. Excellent

Interesting story
After I read this book to my 4&6 year old girls, my four year said she didn't like how naughty the monkeys were. My six year old says she loves how the mommy monkey loves the kids no matter what.
